What features does DDS/DAT offer my business?
DDS packs up to 20GB into one tiny cartridge (DGD150P). This ability is derived from the helical scan technology developed by Sony. The keys to the Sony DAT72 and DAT160 cartridges' performance and reliability are advanced manufacturing technology and 16 years of experience. The DAT72 and DAT160 cartridges are the latest evolution in the line of DDS technology that Sony co-developed. Building on the qualities that made DDS the most widely-accepted tape backup solution in the market, DAT72 and DAT160 add the capability to store 72GB and 160GB of compressed data on a single small cartridge respectively.
As the largest DDS/DAT manufacturer, Sony delivers the following features:
- Improved performance by employing a coating technology that produces one of the thinnest magnetic layers used in storage media.
- Both DDS and DAT technologies also boast a non-magnetic layer that possesses exceptional surface smoothness for stable and durable tape transport and enhances the performance of the magnetic layer.
- Long-term archival storage and a low error rate
- Sony DDS tapes employ a magnetic material that has outstanding magnetic transfer characteristics. Key to this performance are Sony's ultra-fine particles and anti-oxidation coating, which is comprised of HDA (High-Density Alloy), HESA (High Energy Stabilized Alloy), and MP+++ (Metal Particle).
